Ships to War

Here is a brilliant instrumental that my friend bZa came up with for me (the guy who did the great instrumental for the "9 Crimes" cover). The idea was inspired by a track from the movie "Ink", called John's Walk (by Jamin Winans). I feel bZa did such an amazing job. I just wish I could do it the kind of justice I want for it. Perhaps one day. I rewrote the lyrics of this song idea of mine to try to incorporate Ships to War into it. I have been in a slump for a while and as a result failed to preform the vocals for in a manor that I felt would compliment his great track and my lyrical concept. Never the less, I felt it was so good that the instrumental needed to be shared. I hope he doesn't mind.

I urge you to check out bZa. He is a great, inspiring artist and friend to me. One that deserves to be heard:

Here are the lyrics I wrote.
the two segments were written with the idea of two separate vocalist preforming it:

if my voice could move the sails
of our ships in route to war
then I could spin the grandest tales
that would steer us from your shore
I'd pull us both so far away
and hold us far apart
until the days forced hatred to give way
to beauty in our hearts
that day we lay our weapons down
and find our way to common ground
then make amends for all the slain
to bring an end to all this pain

if I was strong enough inside
to put my pride aside
then I'd retract this pointed finger
and my blame for those who died
if only I had peace of mind
for all that I have left behind
I'd swear that I want peace this time
but time's my crime
I'm confined
I've let myself become entwined with hate
I'm scared to close my eyes
my soul is blind and misaligned
by hate I fear I'll be defined
